Ord. Establishing Historical Commission

TOWN OF EAST WINDSOR

The following ordinance was adopted at a Special Town Meeting duly warned and held on February 9, 2000.  Said ordinance shall become effective fifteen (15) days from the publication thereof.



“ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING HISTORICAL COMMISSION”


Section 1.      Establishment:

There shall be a Historical Commission in the Town of East Windsor consisting of five (5) members, and two (2) alternates, who shall be electors of the Town, appointed by the Board of Selectmen.

Section 2.      Terms of office:

Three member’s terms shall expire November 15, 2003 and two member’s terms shall expire November 15, 2001. Subsequent appointments shall be for four-year terms.

Section 3.      Powers and duties:

The Commission shall identify, archive and preserve all municipally owned property which relates to the Town’s history and cultural development, except those items whose preservation has been specifically provided by state or federal law.
The Commission shall promote awareness and appreciation of the Town’s history and the contribution of its citizens through a variety of programs and publications and by assisting municipal officials in the observance of Town anniversaries as well as local, state and national holidays.

The Commission may, with the approval of a property owner, identify, preserve and register with the appropriate authority any structure, site or monument related to the Town’s history and cultural development.
